Exemplary projects implemented - Case Study

Development and implementation of a technology of electricity production from post-production gases heat

Operational Programme Innovative Economy

Measure 1.4-4.1

Value of the project

PLN 66,1 m

Value of the subsidy

PLN 20,1 m

The process course

Since 2008 the company has worked on a new, innovative solution enabling electricity production from post-production gases heat coming from ferrosilicon production. The solution at its pre-implementation stage obtained a honourable mention in a competition called: “the Polish Product of the Future”.

In 2009 the company’s specialists gained a subsidy for the Investor (RE Alloys) from the Operational Programme Innovative Economy, measure 1.4-4.1, in the amount more than PLN 20 m.

In 2009-2015 realisation of a research and implementation stage was conducted, where the company played a role of the General Contractor of an innovative part of the project. The company was responsible for designing, supply, and supervision over a gas turbine installation, recovery boiler, and a whole installation of compressed air, attachments and supports, as well as the instrumentation and automated control systems (AKPiA). The whole was connected by means of the DCS system with the use of the most modern instrumentation and automated control systems.

August 2015 – implementation and launching the installation for a full exploitation, the company granted a licence for use of the innovative installation of own solution.

Launching a production of refined ultra-clean ferro-silico-chromium with controlled content of carbon, nitrogen, oxygen and hydrogen (FeSiCr ULTRA)

Operational Programme Smart Growth

Measure 1.1.2

Value of the project

PLN 26,2 m

Value of the subsidy

PLN 10,4 m

The company prepared the application for subsidy and is responsible for the project management and its proper settlement before the subsiding entity. If the project assumptions are fulfilled, the company will grant the Investor with a licence for using the patent-pending solution which is the company’s property.

Przebieg procesu

February 2015 – the company’s specialists participated in development of an innovative technology of low-carbon ferro-silico-chromium production in electric arc-resistance furnaces, what resulted in a patent application no. P-411272. The subject of the application has been a technology of refining allowing obtaining low carbon content, thus giving the producer a possibility of receive a bonus for an alloy of the above-average quality desirable by recipients.

February 2016 – with the active contribution of the company’s employees the Investor, who is interested in an innovative solution implementation, submitted an application for co-financing within the Operational Programme Smart Growth, measure 1.1.2, and he obtained a grant in the amount of PLN 10.4 m.

July 2016 – the implementation of the project commenced, it consisted of R&D works related to ferro-silico- chromium FeSiCr and use of their results in order to manufacture a product of unique quality parameters, achieved nowhere in the world, including especially of as low as possible content of carbon (≤ 0,02%), phosphorus (≤ 0,02%), nitrogen (≤ 0,02%), hydrogen (≤ 0,03%), oxygen (≤ 0,4%), and sulphur (≤ 0,01%).

September 2017 – a planned end date of the project

Development of an innovative production technology for production of ferroalloys with silicon and aluminium on the basis of industrial wastes, especially from mining industry.

Operational Programme Smart Growth

Measure 1.2

Value of the project

PLN 23 m

Value of the subsidy

PLN 9,3 m

The company prepared the application for subsidy and is responsible for the project management and its proper settlement before the subsiding entity.

The process course

September 2016 – submission of the application within the Operation Programme Smart Growth, measure 1.2 INNOSTAL

December 2016 – the Investor obtained a grant in the amount of PLN 9.3 m

Since November 2016 the project implementation has started and it aims at development of production technology for new ferroalloys with silicon and aluminium on the basis of industrial wastes, especially from mining, a technology enabling production of alloy of 15-20% Al content.

Within an industrial research qualitative and quantitative parameters of waste materials will be defined and influence of additives modifying the ferroalloys smelting process in arc-resistance, six-electrodes furnaces on the obtained materials’ properties will be examined. Construction of a pilot installation including an electric arc-resistance furnace will be realised and technological tests of FeSiAl production based on guidelines and assumptions specified at the stage of industrial research will be conducted within development works.

March 2018 – a planned end date of the project
